It was chilly and wet in Seward for the Polar Bear Plunge this year. Terry and I headed out of town for a long weekend with friends from the Hmong branch - Cynde and Marc Hill. We watched people jumping into some seriously cold water for a good cause - to earn money for the American Cancer Society - ate some yummy fish at the American Legion and saw "turkey bowling" for the first time. (Yes, they really do use frozen turkeys - covered in duct tape - in place of a traditional bowling ball!)
We met our friends, the Harrells, for dinner in downtown Seward (all three blocks!) and attended church the next day with the members of the Seward branch. A highlight of the trip was getting a tour of the AVTEC facility that Dick Harrell manages. His wife, Cathy, is attending the culinary program. It's state of the art cutting edge technology, right in the middle of small town Alaska.
