The blueberries were out and the fireweed was ablaze on the trailside, vibrant magenta in the last days of summer. We hiked beyond the bridge and discovered a slow moving creek with brilliant green moss and a wooden staircase that led to the upper meadows. During our mid-hike picnic, I kept a sharp watch for bears, but never spotted any. All I saw were the beauties of the canyon, purple pinecones, glacier jade water and the shadows of mountains all around.
