October 2013 - Thunderbird Falls

We had a nice long fall this year. Much longer than usual for our part of the world. Frost nipped the leaves, turning them lovely shades of gold, orange and brown. They clung to the branches and waved bravely in the autumn breezes for several weeks before succumbing to winter's chill. Terry and I took many walks in our neighborhood and on the Russian Jack park trails where the birch leaves made a thick carpet of gold.  One evening we drove to Thunderbird Falls and hiked up to the lookout and down to the fall's edge.  There was a slow but steady swirl of leaves in the air as they left the branches and pirouetted to the forest floor.  Fall is truly one of my favorite times of the year.
