Cite de Carcassonne

David looking at the historical castle walls

Nancy and Tami window shopping
I was intrigued by gargoyles - stone figures carved to scare away evil spirits from the buildings they grace. We saw them all over England and France.

Afternoon of June 4th -As we drove into Carcasonne, we saw a medieval fortress set on a hill. "That's the castle they used in the movie, Camelot," Dave said. And then he told us we were spending the night there! Best Western has built modern hotel rooms within the old stone walls of some of the castle buildings. It's a grand tourist attraction. We wandered through the old cobblestone streets, browsing, shopping and breathing in the musty historical atmosphere.
